Glory Movie Essay Example for Free
Wonder Movie Essay Wonder is both a spectacular and tragic film about the main all dark volunteer organization to battle in the common war. The film begins with Col. Robert Gould Shaw driving an organization of warriors in Antietam which endures overwhelming misfortunes. Before long he is elevated to Colonel and provided order to the 54th Massachusetts volunteer infantry; the main all dark regiment. The principal volunteer to join is an informed individual of color named Thomas Searles who is likewise Shaws companion. A lot more men join the regiment including a got away from slave named Trip, a free individual of color named Jupiter Sharts, just as the undertaker Rawlins. In the wake of understanding the regiment in never going to be more than anything other than difficult work, Colonel Shaw goes up against his bosses and requests to be moved to some place where they will see some battling or, in all likelihood he will report him to the War Department for dubious business. Shaws demand is allowed and is moved to South Carolina where they effectively ward off a gathering of confederates. This film was a tremendous hit. Discharged in 1989, it won a sum of 16 honors including 3 Oscars and god selected for 12 additional honors. The Director Edward is notable for his courageous motion pictures that incorporate Glory (1989), and the amazing show-stoppers that incorporate Legends of the Fall (1994) just as present day hits, for example, Love and different Drugs (2010) and Defiance (20080. Zwick has likewise been referred to for his mindfulness as a chief, and for his record of working with TV arrangement and different movies as a maker. The film itself was bound for significance with colossal Hollywood names, for example, Denzel Washington who played Trip and Morgan Freeman who played John Rawlins likewise incredible supporting entertainers like Matthew Broderick who played Colonel Shaw and Andre Braugher to play Thomas Searles. The film spending plan was 18,000,000 and netted a sum of 26,830,000. In my own rating framework 5 being the best and 1 being the most reduced the film got a 4. The film merited each grant it got. There were astonishing fight scenes just as some extremely enthusiastic scenes too. Denzel Washington was an astounding entertainer, the scene where he was getting whipped for abandoning (which we later discover was to discover shoes) while the colonel was viewing was one of the most awful scenes in the film. Just as incredible acting the story never skirts a beat. Thereââ¬â¢s always exciting things happening. The film had an unmistakable plot and you could without much of a stretch comprehend why something was going on. The film gave a sensible perspective on how hard things were for African Americans were and their craving to battle for what they accept is correct. The verifiable exactness of Glory is entirely faulty. It works admirably tending to the difficulties and segregation the 54th went through. Anyway like all Hollywood history films it has its privileges and wrongs. The greater part of the volunteers in the film were delineated as outlaw slaves when as a general rule they were free men in Massachusetts. Of the significant characters in the motion pictures adaptation of the regiment, just Robert Gould Shaw was a genuine individual. The rest are made up characters. The name of Shaws official (Cabot Forbes) is a mix of the main name from one of the genuine Shaws companions and the last name of another. Colonel Shaw was a hitched man yet in the film it wasnââ¬â¢t appeared. Despite the fact that it might not have been a major point in history it was a major piece of Colonel Shawââ¬â¢s individual life. Toward the finish of the film it expresses that over portion of the regiment was lost during the ambush on Fort Wagner. Nonetheless, official records express that the 54th continued 272 setbacks, which is nearer to 40%. Of these setbacks, just 116 were fatalities, just shy of one fifth of the men to storm the post, be that as it may on the off chance that you incorporate the 156 that were caught it would carry your aggregate to over half. Most parts of the film anyway are valid. At the point when the dark fighters denied pay because of separation Colonel Shaw refused his compensation too. Against all desires the 54th rose over that and refuted them. They demonstrated their valor and respect all through a few fights during the war. There was a dedication made to Colonel Shaw and his 54th and consequently cementing their regiment as one of the most persuasive and important ever. List of sources * Glory. Dir. Edward Zwick. Perf. All around acknowledgment standards ââ¬Ã Scientific standards speaks to essential truth about a specific field of enquiry. These standards might be applied in all circumstances, at unsurpassed and at all spots. E. g. â⬠law of attractive energy which can be applied in all nations independent of the time. The board additionally contains some essential standards which can be applied generally like the Principle of Unity of Command I. e. small time, one chief. This guideline is relevant to all kind of association â⬠business or non business. 2. It can't be denied that administration has a methodical collection of information however it isn't as careful as that of other physical sciences like science, material science, and science and so on. The primary purpose behind the estimation of study of the executives is that it manages individuals and it is extremely hard to foresee their conduct precisely. Since it is a social procedure, consequently it falls in the zone of sociologies. It is an adaptable science and that is the reason its hypotheses and standards may create various outcomes at various occasions and in this way it is a conduct science. Ernest Dale has called it as aà Soft Science. The executives as craftsmanship Art infers utilization of information and aptitude to attempting about wanted outcomes. Hussain is perceived for his style. Correspondingly the executives as a workmanship is likewise customized. Each administrator has his own particular manner of overseeing things dependent on his insight, experience and character, that is the rea son a few directors are known as acceptable supervisors (like Aditya Birla, Rahul Bajaj) though others as terrible. 3. Creativity:à Every craftsman has a component of inventiveness in line. That is the reason he targets delivering something that has never existed which requires blend of insight and creative mind. The board is likewise innovative in nature like some other craftsmanship. It joins human and non-HR in helpful manner in order to accomplish wanted outcomes. It attempts to create sweet music by joining harmonies in an effective way. 4. Flawlessness through practice:à Practice makes a man great. Each craftsman turns out to be increasingly more capable through steady practice. Additionally chiefs learn through a specialty of experimentation at first however use of the board standards throughout the years makes them impeccable in the activity of overseeing. 5. It is considered as a science since it has a sorted out group of information which contains certain generally accepted fact. It is called a craftsmanship in light of the fact that overseeing requires certain aptitudes which are close to home assets of supervisors. Science furnishes the information and craftsmanship manages the use of information and abilities. A supervisor to be effective in his calling must procure the information on science and the craft of applying it. Accordingly the board is a wise mix of science just as a craftsmanship since it demonstrates the standards and the manner in which these standards are applied involves workmanship. Science instructs to ââ¬â¢knowââ¬â¢ and craftsmanship educates to ââ¬â¢doââ¬â¢. E. g. an individual can't turn into a decent vocalist except if he knows about different ragas and he additionally applies his own expertise in the craft of singing. Same way it isn't adequate for director to initially know the standards yet he should likewise apply them in taking care of different administrative issues that is the reason, science and craftsmanship are not totally unrelated but rather they are correlative to one another (like tea and scone, bread and butter and so forth ). The well-known adage that ââ¬Å"Manager are Bornâ⬠has been dismissed for ââ¬Å"Managers are Madeâ⬠. It has been relevantly commented that administration is the most seasoned of craftsmanship and most youthful of science. To finish up, we can say that science is the root an

Defining the Community (Essay) - 1100 Words
The Community. Defining the Community (Essay Sample) Content: Community Assessment AppliedNameInstructorCourseDateDefining the CommunityThe community under study is Midway City, California. The subject of obesity is a serious concern to this community. This is because preliminary findings suggest that the level of obesity in this community is higher than the national level. The specific population under study is the children in elementary schools and adults. A survey of obesity status in Midway will be important for policy-makers and the government as it strives to foster a healthy lifestyle in the city.AssessmentMidway has a total population of 10,000 people, a majority of which are whites. There are 1,500 African-Americans and 500 Hispanics. The community has a median age of 37 years. A large percentage of the population falls below 45 years. This means that there is a large group of young people who are exposed to the risk factors of obesity. There are 2,000 children attending school, 35% of them are eligible for free or redu ced price lunch at school. Many of the children who take part in extracurricular activities at school are in middle and senior school levels. Participation in junior levels is limited; hence, a risk factor for child obesity. In Midway City, adult obesity prevalence stands at 325 at national level, 35% at state level and 34% at local level (CDC, 2013). The adult obesity prevalence level in higher in Midway than it is at the national level.Data GenerationThe assessment collected data through interviews. Four key informants were identified and selected for the purpose of collecting data. These were elementary school physical education instructor, park and recreation director, restaurant owner and church minister. The four were selected because they were in close contact the target groups susceptible to obesity in Midway City. The elementary school physical education teacher was in a good position to comment on the prevalence of child obesity while the church minister would shed light on adult obesity. The recreation and park director would comment on the level of physical activity among different groups of people. A restaurant owner is best placed to highlight the eating habits of people in Midway City.FindingsThe findings of this survey general show that obesity is a serious problem (CDC, 2013). To begin with, there is a change in the population attending elementary school in the past decade. Most of the children now joining elementary school are less active than they were ten years before. Secondly, the Midway Community has not done much to prevent child obesity. This is evident in elementary schools, where physical education appears only two or three times a week. Third, interest in physical activities in Midway has waned over the years. Very few families or individuals still visit recreational parks. Moreover, there are several barriers to healthy living in Midway. Firstly, the free or reduced-price lunch program provided to school-going children is clearly a r isk factor in child obesity. This is because children may not like what is being served and would resort to buying junk food, which is a factor in child obesity. Another barrier to healthy living is lack of sufficient time for recreation. Many parents work on full-time basis, leaving them very little time for recreation with their children. In schools, the impression created is that physical fitness is not an important lifelong skill, judging from the little time allocated for physical education on the timetable.DiscussionObesity is a grave concern in Midway. The findings of this research show that people in Midway are exposed to many risk factors of obesity. Child obesity is on the rise due to a number of reasons. First, most of the children joining elementary school are less active than before. This is because there is little time allocated for physical education in elementary school. Secondly, the free or reduced lunch program drives children into buying junk food because schools do not always serve them with their favorite dishes. Lastly, parents are also too busy to take their children out for a physical exercise, such as swimming or walking. The adults in Midway are also prone to obesity. Research indicates that they are too busy to exercise. This is because most of them are in full-time jobs which consume most of the time. The resulting lack of exercise predisposes them to obesity. Another fact leading to the increase obesity prevalence is lack of recreational facilities. People may have liked to exercise but they lack the opportunity to do so due to limited facilities. There is also a general lack of interest in physical fitness in Midway. Fewer people visit recreation centers compared to previous years. This has caused most of them to be overweight.Nevertheless, the community is not without some strength. During sunny weather, some families use the bike trail. This provides them with enough exercise to keep obesity at bay. Consequently, though there ar e numerous risk factors for obesity in Midway, some people still find time to exercise on the bike trail.ConclusionThe threat of obesity in Midway is real. This is especially the case for elementary school-going children and adults. This is because they have little or participation in physical activities both at home or school. There is limited time for physical education on t...

Why Death Should Be Important For All Philosophers And How...
In Platoââ¬â¢s Phaedo, Socrates is preparing for his death following his trial in Platoââ¬â¢s Apology. He engages in an discussion with Simmias and Cebes about why death should be important to all philosophers and how one goes about acquiring knowledge. Socrates explains that the pursuit of knowledge, or wisdom, should be the life goal of a philosopher. This explanation hinges on the fact that death makes possible the acquisition of knowledge. However, the issue that I will focus on in this paper is the way Socrates the acquisition of knowledge. He believes that the body is impure, and the soul only acquires knowledge after death in an ââ¬Å"In-Betweenâ⬠state when by itself. Simmias and Cebes donââ¬â¢t raise an issue with this explanation; however, I do. Socrates does not definitively prove that the soul is acquiring knowledge during this ââ¬Å"In-Betweenâ⬠state, nor does he consider the alternative theory that the soul can acquire knowledge in the body, but co nsolidates and identifies the truth of this knowledge after death. In this paper, I will investigate this alternative theory and show how it is possible according to Socratesââ¬â¢ standards. As Socrates is preparing for his execution, he defines what death is to Simmias and Cebes and explains the significance of death. As one will see, this is the beginning of the standards he sets for how the soul acquires knowledge. Influences on Designers Mies Van Der Rohe and Breuer,...
To what extent did external influences shape what modernist design became in Europe in the 1920ââ¬â¢s? Focusing on chair designs by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer. In design, external influences have always played a vital role in any given trend. In the 1920ââ¬â¢s, an era commonly referred to as the Machine Age , modernist design followed a very focused approach: a desire to create a better world. In this essay, I will make a brief overview of the socio-economic situation of this time period, with a short introduction to the life of the two practitioners whose work I will analyse: Marcel Breuer and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. I will deliver an examination of their most famous designs, by considering three major themes: rejection ofâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The choice of using only the essential materials to create a bold, unconventional structure made this one of the most well-known chairs in the world. He also came up with the B 32; an alternative design of this chair, with no armrest to suit other preferences. Breuer also created the B 3 (Image 2); a design that minimised the usual heavy armchair into its most vital features, while keep ing its function and commodity with this clean geometrical design. ââ¬ËTruth to materialsââ¬â¢ Although a rejection to ornamentation had been taken, it did not mean that pleasing aesthetics were ignored. Designers chose to take a brave path of making objects that shone through their bare appearance and intention. By doing this, they were incorporating art into the industry. Breuerââ¬â¢s design of the steel armchair (Image 2); was the first chair to be made with tubular steel as its frame material; a revolutionary advance in furniture design. This revealed the honest and true nature of the materials; the tubular steel and polished yarn fabric gave this piece lightness, resistance, and hygienic features. The fabric was positioned to avoid the userââ¬â¢s contact with the coolness of the steel, which additionally highlighted the geometrical look. With this, Breuer was also accomplishing a celebration of industrial imagery. ââ¬ËForm follows functionââ¬â¢ ââ¬ËForm follows functionââ¬â¢ incorporates the previous two themes in itself; design must be in directShow MoreRelatedThe Bauhaus : Art Education By Influencing Graphic, Interior, And Typography Design1096 Words à |à 5 Pagesarchitect, which studied architecture at the technical institute in Munich from (1903ââ¬â04) and in Berlinââ¬âCharlottenburg from (1905ââ¬â07). This basically entails telling our people our values as the company through various media channels that exist. The recent adverse media reporting about our company need to be dealt with it immediately because we believe that that is not really who we are as our values are strong in the society and the public in general. The aim for this strategic decision is to improve consumer confidence in purchasing and wearing our products knowing very well that its made and distributed by a reputable organization. Consumer behavior and taste is what drives sells, this strategic decision will ensure that our products has the best moral image and strong brand standing in the market that influences the consumer behavior in our favor. My department will put a sharp f ocus on this aspect of our company and reverse any negative ratings that the company brand may have suffered as a result of adverse media propagated by some of the media houses and online platforms in Australia. The leadership of the company as well as its people will therefore stand to benefit from the improved media relations that the company seeks to achieve in a short term period. The company also has put in place a strategic measure to ensure that there is teamwork and constructive collaboration among its internal workforce. The company looks to streamline the functions of the marketing department and those of operations department with the view of aligning them together for the purposes of improving teamwork and efficiency of the company business. Under this particular strategic measure the company will eliminate processes that are not complimentary to each other and replace them with those that are complimentary to each other. With this, there will be better co-operation betw een the marketing department and the operation department that will make it easy for the company to achieve its business objectives in a seamless and timely manner that brings more benefit to the company. The marketing and the operations activities of the company should work hand in hand because its through marketing that the company will be able estimate the expected number of sales per individual products which will then advice the operations department to work in a way that will be optimal for the company. This strategic measure will see the performance of each the employee given a fair chance to be on top without any hindrances that may be brought about by internal competition. In turn this will boost the moral of all the employees of the company and thus the management will have an easy time in running the affairs of the company in its endeavor to meet or exceed the company objectives. These major strategic measures therefore will see our company improve and be more successful in the market. (Hawkins and Mothersbaugh, 2017.) My department will implement the following measures and initiatives for the forthcoming financial year of the company. In line with the company vision to introduce designer labels across our stores, my department will immediately begin vetting of the designers whose designs and ideas marries well with our clientele. The department under my leadership would want to ensure that we dont loose our brand identity as Shopz for Us that may adversely affect consumer behavior towards our products. We will also ensure that the designers whose work will be displayed in our stores are of good moral standing in the eyes of the public so that we avoid further adverse media on products and image of our brand. The designers will audition for this purpose and as company we dont intent to lock international designers who can attend the auditions in person or send a representative who will be able to articulate all the issues concerning such as the theme of the designs as well as their market niche. Regarding the company objective of setting up an online platform through which we do more sells, my department plans to implement this objective using a carefully thought out plan aimed at getting maximum results or output for the company. We will first launch this program using existing resources such as our website which will need a few changes to accommodate capabilities such as visitors being able to view products online, ability to search products using sizes, colors and other parameters and the capacity of the website to accommodate increased traffic we envisage as soon as we go online. The interfaces will be made user-friendly in that the customers will still get the best experience in shopping with us same way he/she would have experienced if shopping in our one of our physical stores. The company will also utilize its followers on its social media handles such as Instagram and twitter so has to leverage on the existence resource to launch online platforms for selling product s. This strategy will also see the company use little outlay in terms of the budget and thus realize optimal profits for our company and shareholders. In seeking franchise partnerships my department will conduct an easement of the franchise applications which will be made to the company. The easement will be based on the finding market capabilities of the financial applicants to see which ones among offers the best position for us in terms of complimentary marketing activities that will see our company benefit more. To expound on this, we as Shopz for Us are very keen on ensuring that all our processes compliment each other as opposed to contradicting each other. In view of this therefore ladies and gentlemen, Shopz for Us will only approve franchises whose marketing capabilities compliment what we have and whose other brand suits our customer base or market niche. To improve the image of our brand my department will embark on massive public relations activities that are majorly aimed to improve our image and brand strength in the market. This will be done in a series of initiatives starting with running of our core values in the leading Australian media houses along with the products that we sell. We will seek to let the people and the general public that as Shopz for Us we value our people dignity and right of association or disassociation. That our company has put in place measures through its human resource division that ensures no one in the organization can be forcefully made to engage in any activity that they dont like. Our values such as integrity and honesty will remind people of who we are and despite of the challenges that we may face we have values that guides us and anyone of us going against it undergoes due disciplinary measures as set out in our human resource manual on employees code conduct. The company will through its socia l media platforms call for customers who think we have best products in the market and that our people are nice and respectful to be our ambassadors. The main aim of this is to let other people talk on about who we are so that there is transparency and believability in the message that we are trying to pass across to the public given that its being said by a different and independent party. To assess the success of the measure taken by the company the marketing department will carry out a survey in the public to find out about how successful our brand image campaign is in terms of what the public now thinks about our brand and people who work for us. The outcome that we will get from this survey will help us make informed and necessary changes in the initiatives and media campaigns for the subsequent years. The department in line with the overall objective of teamwork put in place initiatives that will encourage all the employees of the company to value teamwork rather than more on individual success. These initiatives include rewarding employees that contribute more on achieving this agenda such as giving business leads to other employees in the company for the greater benefit of the organization as a whole. These rewards ladies and gentlemen are meant to encourage our employees to work together as a unit and improve our companys internal organization. Research indicates that teamwork is likely to bring out optimal results among the employees as opposed to working in isolation. The reason behind this ladies and gentlemen is that human beings are social beings in nature. They are wired to work as a group more than in individualistic manner. The fact that they are social being makes teamwork achievable and a realistic goal for the company. When working as a team individual member may, in the cause of their duty, come across an innovative idea or business lead that is not relevant to his or her department or job description but the same innovative idea or business lead can greatly benefit a colleague in a different unit of the organization. With teamwork in place the company is likely to come up with an innovative product in the market that will give it a competitive edge in the market thus making more sales. On the other hand the business lead given to a different person within the organization may materialize simply because the person given could be in better position to close that particular business for the company due to the closeness he or she has with the customer in question. In conclusion therefore my colleagues, it is my sincere hope that Shopz for Us will have a great year based on the plans that weve put in place to ensure that the company continue to improve and gain a strong brand image in the market. I take this opportunity to wish you all, all the best in the forthcoming year and may you achieve or exceed both your personal and organizational targets for the New Year. Thank you for listening!
